About Us

JIM MULVIHILL TOURS traces its roots back to 1946. Founded by a true visionary, Roy Thompson, and named after him, THOMPSON TOURS began right after World War II from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Looking to expand his regional business, Roy met and partnered with another true visionary, Jim Mulvihill. As Jim developed the new group business for the company, it quickly became a national firm. With the passing of Roy Thompson in the 1960s and the addition of the 2nd generation of the Mulvihill family, Jim looked to purchase the business.

In 1982, just prior to Jim’s sudden death, the final piece of outstanding stock was negotiated and purchased by the Mulvihill Family. In 1986 the family decided to change the name from “Thompson Tours” to “Jim Mulvihill Tours” in honor of the man and father who forged this small company into a national firm with an international identity. Presently there are 10 descendants of Jim Mulvihill working full-time in the family company. From shirt-sleeve to shirt-sleeve, we are a solely owned and operated family business. Our second and third generation members make us the company we are today. We try to make every group feel like they have had a personal connection to our family and that we leave “a little extra” for our clients wherever possible.

Our mission is to build lasting relationships with our clients while enriching their own knowledge and travel experiences. Repeat clients, as well as many others, have been the lifeblood of Jim Mulvihill Tours for more than 60 years. Word of mouth has always been our ONLY method of communication and marketing. We would like to thank those groups that have continued to give us the opportunity to meet their travel needs. Hopefully this website will help broaden those relationships and our communication with them.

  • You can equate Jim Mulvihill Tours with top quality student trips and outstanding service. As freshman class moderator at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut, I have been on dozens of Mulvihill trips and I’m always comfortable with the knowledge that the trip will run smoothly. In addition, I always look forward to seeing either Bob or Logan because they have become more than just a tour company; they have, indeed, become friends.

  • Over the past 7 years, Riverwatch Middle School, overwhelmingly chooses to work with Jim Mulvihill Travel Agency in order to plan our annual 8th grade trip to Savannah, GA. Every year we ask Jim Mulvihill Tours to plan a 3-day trip for anywhere between 350-500 students. And each year, my teachers and students experience the best Savannah and Tybee Island have to offer. From planning to trip, their family accommodates our wishes while knowing the area and the owners of the facilities we use. They balance our wishes with what we are realistically capable of experiencing as such a large group. They make the trip seamless and allow students and teachers to enjoy their time together. If you haven’t yet used Jim Mulvihill Travel Agency, you must try them this year! You will not be disappointed!
